The community is home to Duke University and has a population of more than 300,000 residents.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The food scene in Durham is unlike any other; you can find everything from international culinary traditions to the best Southern comfort food. Vin Rouge is a classic French restaurant with an upscale atmosphere and extensive wine list. Dame’s Chicken & Waffles serves comfort food pairings with extra toppings to satisfy any craving. Mateo Bar de Tapas is a southern-style tapas in a chic setting. They serve refined, Spanish-inspired dishes with a Southern inflection.

Nanasteak is next to the Durham Performing Arts Center and has a beautiful eating area with natural light and tables inlaid with real tobacco leaves. Fullsteam Brewery is an industrial-style brewery serving craft brews. M Sushi serves amazing fresh sushi prepared daily. Streets at Southpoint is the area’s  shopping mall with a variety of stores such as Apple, Crate & Barrel, Barnes and Nobles, and Macy’s, as well as good dining options.
 

Things to Do 

Whether you are looking to spend an hour or the entire day, there is something for everyone in Durham. Durham Performing Arts Center is the largest performing arts center in the Carolinas and hosts more than 200 performances a year. The Carolina Theatre is a performing arts and cinema facility located downtown. They host shows, films, and educational classes.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park is a 10,000-seat stadium and home to the Durham Bulls, a Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, Duke Blue Devils, and North Carolina Central Eagles baseball teams.

The Nasher Museum of Art is on the Duke University campus and provides tours, exhibits, talks, and classes. Cameron Indoor Stadium is also on Duke’s campus and serves primarily as a sporting venue where residents can view various basketball and volleyball games. Sarah P. Duke Gardens, on Duke’s campus, contains five miles of walking pathways surrounded by lush gardens and greenery. Residents also like to stop by the Durham Bull, a downtown bronze sculpture n.

American Tobacco Campus is a historic tobacco campus, with multiple venues including tech hubs, office suites and on-site events such as concerts and food truck rodeos. There are also delicious restaurants and boutique shops.
